Ferron Malek-I aka Tjax   born in a small town in Manchester, Jamaica.  Music has been an integral part of Ferron’s life. Growing up in Jamaica, his childhood was filled with reggae festivals and family gatherings, all rich with the sweet sounds of Caribbean island and reggae music. From a very early age, he had an ear for music, to the delight of those around him Ferron showed promising talent as he was able to perform songs after hearing them played just once. The island provided young Ferron with not only strong foundation for music, but also provided roots in his purpose, character, and moral foundation.

At the age of 14, Ferron moved with his mother to Chicago, it was here where his passion for music became a life long pursuit. R & B music took part in continuing to mold Ferron’s style of music. He began practicing his fledgling craft by toasting (rapping) at parties, clubs and being a DJ on WNUR 89.3 FM Northwestern college radio station. During his twenties, his passion and development matured and he set a goal for himself, to create expressive music with meaningful lyrics.  Lyrics and melodies that carry the power to resonate the passions he felt for his Home Island, social issues, and spiritual upbringing.

 In the 1980’s, Ferron developed his singing and rapping talents. He perform with various bands, worked as a deejay, and fulfilled his life’s passion by releasing his first single in 1988 called “Stepping Vibrations”.  At that time in his life he adopted the stage name “Tjax Malek-I”, as most rappers performed under a more urban name. After receiving a very positive response he decided to make the leap into independent production to fulfill his musical ambitions.  His first album, “Hypnotic Ghetto Rhythm” is a landmark in reggae and Caribbean music. The lyrics and music tells a story that ghettos are not merely the culmination of poverty and shantytowns, but also a state of mind. It dares the listener to observe his or her surroundings and to realize that politics, the class system, the state of the world all create a destitute environment.

Afterwards he expanded his vision and formed his current band Ferron “Tjax” Maleki and the Ras Lion Sound now known as the Mellow Vibes, and produced and released his latest album in 2009 “On the Front Line”. This is an 18-track album that perfectly weaves elements of the artist’s culture and life experiences. Ferron’s unique musical visionary talents are brought out by a unique reggae band consisting of a full brass section and heavenly voices from the background section. The ultimate aim is to captivate audiences, free minds, and spread their energy and passion. Blending the best of rock, reggae, rap, jazz, gospel, and calypso music into an unprecedented performance of great music.

The International Reggae Arts Award recognized his talents an unprecedented seven times. Nominated in seven different categories included Best Song, Best Singer, Best Songwriter, Best Male Vocalist, Best Entertainer, Best Stage Presence and Best Producer .

Ferron have performed along side Artiste such as Steele Pulse, Third World, Culture, Burning Spear, Junior Kelly, Sizzla, Anthony B, Capleton,  Luciano, Sister Carol, Beres Hammond and Regina Bell just to name a few.
